Bhrashta4: The corruption

India's way of life!

Eating into MCD or NDMC revenue?

(Story by Jyoti Narula)

New Delhi, Jan 1st, 2010

Can India ka dil be so corrupt?

According to MCD laws, putting up of any advertisement material on the gates put up for security purpose in the colonies is not allowed. The right to put advertisement boards/hoardings on any public land is the sole prerogative of the MCD or the NDMC (or any civic authority under whose jurisdiction the area falls under). These authorities earn great revenues this way. In case these authorities are bye-passed it is the loss of revenue for the exchequer. Hoardings of large companies like Voltas, Airtel and many more can be seen on many colony gates violating all the laws. The last photograph showing the glowing sign board is violation of electricity saving guidelines too. The 'legal' signboards are switched off during peak hours in summer but who will swich these off these illegal hoardings? This is worse that the guidelines to save electricity are for the law-abiding citizens only. If you are doing something illegal, you are not forced to abide by anything. "India ka dil, India ka AC", they say. But we ask you, "Can India ka dil be so corrupt? They are in fact 'robbing' the authorities in the tune of crores of rupees every year according to our conservative estimate. It is not known why the authorities turn a blind eye to all this. These guidelines regarding colony gates is on MCD's own website for long but surprisingly not visible easily in the new version of the website. Anyway, it is very much in the rule books and ought to be complied to. It also seems that the RWA's are never booked for violating the law in putting up of hoardings. Newsjyoti has launched a campaign against this corruption and solicits your participation as the loss of revenue for authorities is loss for all of us; as it is we all who then have to pay more taxes. Also when the load- shedding takes place because of this wastage of electricity, it is we all who suffer. Look out for more developments in the story of corruption and the final results.
