NDMC selling capris?!

The h'ble High court had issued directions to the NDMC to remove all encroachments and footpath vendors from Connaught Place, New Delhi before June 1st, 2009. Those were removed but sadly only for a month or so. Then they all came back with a vengeance. The authorities turned a blind eye and as a result they are now much more in number than they were before court orders. The NDMC seems so helpless before this mafia that the vendors and the NDMC truck meant to confiscate and carry it away can be seen 'co-existing' side by side.

Commonwealth games are fast approaching and the job of renovating the CP is on full gear. The way is too small but there is ample space for these vendors. As a result, the people must walk on the road (look in the far right background in the photograph). Nobody seems to care. Now it is for you to decide whether authorities can be so helpless or is it a case or clear 'connivance'! The NDMC truck is seen standing here too! Workers are perhaps having patties from the 'rehri' shown on right. (That is why the picture of 'rehri' not taken in full!) The government is spending hundreds of crores of public money on renovation of connaught place. This is all being done for 15 days of commonwealth games only. These hawkers shall be removed by NDMC for sure during those 15 days. But what once the games are over? I am doubtful whether all this will add to the beauty once the renovation of connaught place is complete. Let us have a look at it for a few days:

Today NDMC is selling fruits on it's favorite spot.

Today the truck is parked in the 'proper parking' among other cars and the 'tehbazari tables'. Seems like they have given 'hands up' before this tehbazari. The question now arises is, who pays for this 'dedicated truck' appointed for this job to stop tehbazari? The NDMC? That means 'you and me', the taxpayer? If the honorable court does us a favor and takes back it's orders, at least this useless expense on the truck and the driver, helpers etc. is saved.

Today the enforcement department has perhaps just unloaded 'fresh stock of kurta pyjama' for sale. Perhaps this is the real renovation of CP, the maximum possible that they could do. Voltas eating into MCD/NDMC revenue
