Common beggar wealth

India lives for that fortnight only

New Delhi, July 19, 2010
This thing could astonish anyone in the outside world though we the Indians may look at it as a 'regular' thing. 70 days are left for the opening ceremony of the great 'commonwealth games' in New Delhi and only today the pavement outside 'Rajiv Chowk' station of Delhi Metro is being dug up to lay the new one. They may claim that the work shall be completed before commonwealth games but the question many are asking is, how much before and at what cost?

Is the quality of work going to be the same for which NDMC is known for? Or is it going to be different? How much before the actual opening ceremony is it going to be finished? Aren't there chances that the marriage procession is on the door and the bride is out for some 'waxing'? Looking at the progress of the subways nearby creates these doubts. After waxing she has to go for some bridal makeup also. Supposing we do not need that 'make-up', we surely need the bride back before the marriage time. We are talking about Shivaji stadium which is not far away from this location.

Million dollar question is, if at all we complete all the projects before the D-day, would it not be foolish to assume that all our guests are going to arrive on D-day morning only? I can bet that if someone arrives just a week before the games, everything is exposed. Question is, is India living for the 'games fortnight' only?

This question find its buyers in many other processes too. Delhi was promised to be 'beggar-free' before commonwealth games. Again the question arises, 'how much before and how much after, if at all it is going to last after the games'.

Look at the white girl (the one with a nice pair of legs) clicking the pictures of beggars and 'rag-picker' children having 'not-so-nice-looking' limbs to take the sweet memories of India along with her.
Who on earth 'drove' this old handicapped man and left him here to beg? These beggars have a great business sense and CP is their great 'office location' just as any other business.

Before leaving have a look at this video taken yards away near handloom emporium, Regal building, CP. Weak hearted are advised to refrain from watching this beggar writhe in pain. The question that haunts me is that how come they manage to reach Connaught Place and some even manage to get down a few stairs of the subways and the Metro station (and climb up again!)
